Bay Colony Productions at The Orpheum Theatre and the friends and family of Jessie M. Cook have established a scholarship fund to honor Jessie and her valued contributions to her community. Jessie passed away September 9, 2005 after a difficult battle with lung cancer. She is remembered by many organizations for her spirited support and volunteerism. Among her many selfless endeavors, Jessie was a dedicated and charismatic volunteer with The Orpheum Theatre since it's grand re-opening in October of 1994. When speaking of The Orpheum, Jessie said, "We are so privileged to have The Orpheum: I wish more people would support it." Her friends and family wished to establish this fund and her colleagues from The Orpheum Theatre gratefully supported it to continue in Jessie's impassioned and dedicated support of community theatre and education.

This fund will benefit students interested in pursuing education in the theatre arts, allowing for youth with limited financial means and a great desire to participate in community theatre to take classes with The Orpheum Academy. The Orpheum Academy is a full-year program focused on teaching the fundamentals of theatre through acting technique, characterization, performance skills, audition technique, memorization, projection, movement and improvisation. In addition, their musical theatre programs help develop voice and dance skills. Classes are offered to youth from Kindergarten through 12th grade, through a 3-term schedule; with after-school programs during the school year and full-day programs during the summer.
